BALLET
Ballet is considered the foundation of all technical dance training. These classes focus on the classical principles of ballet while teaching students proper technique, posture, alignment, strength, and control. Ballet requires discipline, focus, and attention to detail, making it an essential part of every dancer's development. Strong ballet technique provides the foundation for the strength, power, artistry, and technical execution needed to excel in all styles of dance.
Required Attire: Black ballet leotard, pink or skin tone tights. Pink or skin tone ballet shoes. Hair must be pulled up into a neat ballet bun. Ballet warm-ups OK. No loose fitting shirts or pants.
JAZZ
Jazz classes focus on both classical and modern styles of jazz while emphasizing proper technique, strength, flexibility, control, and body placement. Dancers will develop musicality, performance quality, and artistry as they learn to interpret movement with precision and confidence. Classes incorporate the foundational principles of ballet technique while using dynamic movement and upbeat music to create a fun, challenging, and engaging learning environment. Because ballet provides the technical foundation for jazz, we strongly encourage dancers to continue their ballet training alongside their jazz classes.
Required Attire: Form-fitting dance top - tank, tee, or sports bra OK. Form-fitting dance bottoms - leggings, shorts, leotard, or dance briefs OK. Hair must be pulled back out of the face. Tan jazz shoes or bare feet OK.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop classes expose dancers to a variety of styles while emphasizing both foundational technique and choreography. Classes focus on developing musicality, coordination, strength, confidence, and performance quality while encouraging dancers to explore movement in a fun and supportive environment. Students will gain a deeper understanding of rhythm, movement quality, choreography, and self-expression as they continue to challenge themselves and expand their versatility as performers.
Required Attire: Stretchy, comfortable dance or “work-out” clothing - leggings, joggers/sweat pants, t-shirts, and tanks OK. No “school clothes”, jeans, jean shorts, or restrictive clothing. Flexible sneakers required. Sneakers worn during class, inside the studios, should not be worn outside.
TAP
Tap classes combine the foundational principles of traditional tap dancing with a fresh and creative approach to choreography. Dancers will develop rhythm, coordination, agility, timing, and musicality while learning to produce clear, precise sounds and articulate movement. Classes encourage students to build confidence, strengthen their performance skills, and deepen their understanding of the relationship between movement and music.
Required Attire: Stretchy, comfortable dance or “work-out” clothing - leggings, joggers/sweat pants, t-shirts, and tanks OK. Black tap shoes. No excessively long pants, as they interfere with the tap shoes.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance combines elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance techniques to create movement that is expressive, interpretive, and deeply rooted in storytelling. Classes focus on artistry, musicality, fluidity, strength, and versatility while encouraging dancers to explore emotion and self-expression through movement. Dancers will develop both technical skills and creative freedom as they learn a wide range of movement qualities and improvisational techniques.
