Picture Schedule - Saturday, May 19 “HYPErbole 2012” Information Dear HYPE Families, It's that time of year again…"HYPErbole" is approaching! This year our show-stopping, annual spring dance recital will take place on the weekend of June 7-9, 2012. We are so fortunate to hold our event at the beautiful Center for the Arts at Pleasant Valley High School this year. After we used this gorgeous theatre last year for our ballet production Big Top and Student Choreography Showcase, we knew it would be a great fit for our sell-out spring recital HYPErbole!” As you know, many things go into this large production. I'd like to organize the information for you so that you may have an overview and be prepared for everything to come! Please review this informational packet…and get ready for another great show this year! Show Description: A large part of HYPE Dance Studio's Mission is to provide various opportunities for young dancers to perform, experience the stage, and share their excitement for dance with an audience! It's an amazing feeling and memory for children, and an equally proud one for parents as we watch from the seats. At HYPE we are committed to encouraging and motivating our dancers to take this "leap" onto the big stage, and will guide them through the preparations for this performance. In essence, this show is about celebrating our love of dance! You'll see a large variety of dance styles, music and costumes from dancers of all ages in our current weekly classes. You'll see the studio's competition and company pieces, some of which are from renowned guest choreographers that have come to visit HYPE over the season. Our faculty will be performing, there will be a fun slide-show played…the list goes on! Jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary…with over 300 dancers, "HYPErbole 2012" is going to be a great show! Show Dates/Times: 4 shows will be held, all of which will be different from each other. For the first time we will be holding a company showcase featuring all of our competition, performance pieces and solos from Fusion Dance Company. This show will also be accompanied by HYPE’s special performance groups All Stars and Street Team. We will have a Matinee show for our younger dancers, and two evening shows for all our older dancers at the studio. In addition, shows are categorized based on based on age, dance style, number of dancers, etc. This allows for balanced ticket sales, ample production room inside theatre, a balanced cast number, time for costume changes and overall show variety. Many of our dancers are in multiple classes, and therefore in multiple dances. In fact, students at HYPE are averaging 4 classes per week this semester! There are also many siblings that take classes. Although we try to accommodate every family performing in the same show, we cannot guarantee it. If your dancer(s) is asked to perform in more than one show, you will be allowed backstage to help them change. Due to the limited seating in this venue, we cannot give out any complimentary tickets this year. You may, however, still purchase tickets for multiple shows if you’d like. Show #1: Thursday, June 7 - 6:00 PM Show #2: Friday, June 8 - 6:00 PM Show #3: Saturday, June 9 – 1:00 PM Show #4: Saturday, June 9 - 6:00 PM Dances: Classes are currently working on choreography for the show. Each instructor's approved music, costumes and concepts are underway! You will begin to see all classes starting their routines, if not already! As it gets closer to the show, instructors will invite parents in to view the dances. Posters: Each class/dance/costume is posted at the studio. This poster also includes costume fees, any items you need to supply, all accessories, hair instructions, shoes, etc. Please take the time to view all detailed information for your class. Costumes: HYPE Dance Studio has ordered costumes for each class. All costumes are submitted and approved in the early months of the season. Each costume is chosen based on style, concept, age, etc. Orders are made from reputable costume companies and suppliers that we have used in previous years. We understand the importance of keeping costumes at a reasonable price, and in doing so have select companies that we feel still deliver quality costumes at a good value. Some companies take longer to manufacture and deliver, while others may arrive quickly. Our Studio Manager Tana is responsible for receiving all costume items for each class and will hand them out with the instructor once all items have arrived. Please be patient in this distribution process, as we have over 85 sets of costumes coming in at once. Upon arrival, some of the costumes may appear different than the poster’s original pictures. Some adjustments have been made for anything backordered or unavailable in the process of ordering. If this is the case, we have done our best to keep the costume in the same price range and of similar style. If you have any questions about any costume items please don't hesitate to ask, and you can also always refer to your class's poster for all details. Tickets: HYPErbole 2012 tickets go on sale to HYPE families on Monday, April 30 at HYPE Dance Studio. Ticket sales open to the general public 1 week later, starting May 7. We strongly urge parents to buy your tickets in this first week, as we cannot guarantee they will be available once they go on sale to the public. We don’t want anyone to miss seeing his or her child perform! Tickets prices are: $10.00 ages 11-adults $7.00 ages 4-10 3 & under Free (lap seats only) Ticket are sold at HYPE’S Front Desk, and hours are: Monday –Thursday 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM Friday 3:00 – 6:00 PM Saturday 9:00 – 11:00 AM PHONE ORDERS are available and will only be taken 1 hour after daily sales begin each day. We only have 1 phone line at the studio to take these calls, please be patient. The CFA Theatre seats over 480 guests per show, and tickets have assigned seating on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please note that this event sells out every year, and we want to make sure that all family members are able to watch their dancer perform! Please get your tickets early, as we cannot guarantee there will be available seating at the door.
Class Pictures: Professional pictures of all our classes will be taken in costume by Avalon Portraits! Pictures will be taken on Saturday, May 19 at HYPE Dance Studio. A full schedule of the day will be posted very soon. Please reserve the morning until early afternoon. All classes will have group and individual pictures taken in full costume before the show! NOTE: Saturday classes will still be held this day. Any time changes for these classes will be announced along with the picture schedule. DVD: Every year we have our shows professionally recorded and put on DVD! That way all of our students can see the entire studio’s performances. Your purchase of one DVD includes all 4 shows! More information on a professional recording of HYPErbole 2012 will be announced soon. Dress Rehearsals: The week of our show is our technical week for all production preparations. (Our normal class schedule will not be held this week, however extra rehearsals may be called if needed. Also note that since we are closed for Memorial Day, those classes will have makeups on Monday, June 4 – see below.) A very important part of this week is, of course, Dress Rehearsal! Actually…dress rehearsals! Each show will have its own rehearsal and full run-through of how the show will actually run. NOTE: this is new this year! Instead of running all the dances out of order in one big rehearsal like in year’s past, we will be running each full show at it’s own dress rehearsal! This ensures for a more technically-sound performance that has better practice before the big night! All 4 of our rehearsals will be held at the CFA on Tuesday, June 5 and Wednesday, June 6. Please reserve the afternoon through evening as we go through each dance on stage. (See attached Cast Listings / Dress Rehearsals for your child’s day and time.) Costumes, hair and makeup will be required at this rehearsal. Parents may watch in the theatre. It gives you an opportunity to view each dance in all 4 shows! This is a very important time, as it gives all dancers the necessary preparations to perform. What they do isn’t easy! And it’s crucial that they all feel comfortable by practicing. This is a mandatory event for all dancers. Please make plans to attend.
