About Fusion:

HYPE Dance Studio presents its award-winning, competitive dance company in its 5th year…FUSION ! Led by Sarah Blakley, this talented group of dancers is selected to represent HYPE Dance Studio at various events and competitions nationwide. With intense training in Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Tap and Ballet, FUSION Dance Company is comprised of some of the most gifted dancers in the North State.

All FUSION dancers are selected by an annual audition, and are committed to intense training and a full performance schedule. They attend professional dance conventions year-round such as Co. Dance, JUMP, Monsters of Hip Hop, The Pulse, and more learning the latest developments in the industry from dance’s most renowned professionals. They travel to various dance competitions, gaining the performance and competitive experience that has led them to winning their superior, national recognition!

WHAT IT TAKES FOR FUSION:
Jazz dancers – clean double pirouettes (right and left), splits (right and left), flexibility in center and back, coordination, agility, stage presence and appeal, ability to pick up stylized choreography and dedication to continuous improvement in technical skills. Competitive jazz takes a lot of hard work…there’s no other way to say it! Every Fusion Jazz dancer must be ready for intense training the entire year.

Hip Hop dancers – clean and precise movements, style and the ability to pick up the choreography/style, in-depth feeling of music and ability to interpret the music, coordination, agility, stage presence and appeal. Fusion Hip Hop dancers must be capable of intricate choreography and be ready to work hard throughout the entire season as a competitive dancer.

 

Mini FUSION Dance Company (6-8 yrs.)

• Dancers are required to take all styles, beginning a well-rounded dance career
• Dancers are encouraged to have fun and enter the exciting world of dance through good training, local performances, and minimal travel. The MINI’S will participate in many local events while only attending a few out-of-town competitions.
• Required Classes:
  -All Mini Fusion dancers: 3 classes per week, Jazz/Hip Hop Rehearsal, Jazz Technique, and Ballet/Tap Combo
• Monthly Tuition:
  -Will reflect HYPE’S 07/08 class rate

 

FUSION Jazz Company

• Dancers are required to take a full schedule of classes at HYPE to maintain and improve their technical skills as a competitive dancer. Weekly jazz, technique, and ballet classes are required as a part of Fusion Jazz Company.
• Required Classes:
  - 07/08 Fall Schedule will be released in July. Dancers will be required to take Company Jazz Rehearsal, Jazz Technique, Ballet, Revolving Technique including lyrical.
• Monthly Tuition:
  - Fusion Jazz Company tuition will reflect HYPE’S 07/08 class rates

 

FUSION Hip Hop Company

• Dancers are required to take the mandatory hip hop classes, and are encouraged to enroll in other technique, tap, ballet, and/or jazz classes at HYPE to help improve their skills as a competitive dancer.
• Required Classes:
  - Dancers will be required to take hip hop choreography and technique classes.
• Monthly Tuition:
  - Fusion Jazz Company tuition will reflect HYPE’S 07/08 class rates

 

Performances & Competitions

Performances: (note: a full performance schedule will be given out at 1st meeting so families can plan ahead, however dates may be added throughout FUSION Season)

• All dancers will have a full performance schedule throughout the season. This includes performing at local events, guest appearances in various dance showcases, halftime entertainment at local sporting events, and a main role in HYPE Dance Studio’s annual Dance Recital “HYPErbole 2008.”
• Performances are a HUGE part of the dancers’ role in FUSION Dance Company and all are required to attend.
• Most performances are on weekends, depending on the event.

Competitions & Conventions:

• Fusion Dancers will travel to dance conventions during the season and compete. (Jazz and hip hop may attend different conventions depending on the style and level of that particular one). The convention consists of 2 days of dance instruction AND competition. Travel extends to Sacramento, Bay Area, etc.
• FUSION Dance Company will also compete at 3 or 4 single competitions during the season, which consist of weekend competitions ONLY (no convention).
• Every year Fusion also attends a National competition. This will be announced when decided.

Estimated Expenses

Costumes & Uniforms: All teams will be required to have the following: (PLEASE NOTE THESE COSTS ARE APPROXIMATE.)

1. Warm-Ups (for travel) = approx. $50.00
2. Bag (optional) = $25.00
3. Shoes (approx.): Jazz = $40.00 / Hip Hop = $50.00
4. Performance & Competition Costumes (2) = approx. $50.00-$60.00 each
5. Additional Attire/costumes = kept at low-cost, and purchased/created for production dances, HYPErbole 2008 Dance Recital, halftime performances, etc

Competitions & Conventions: Dancers will travel to at least 2 conventions and 3 or 4 competitions throughout season. (To be determined as dates are released.)

• approx. $170.00 convention fee
• approx. $25.00 competition fee, per dancer per dance
• plus travel, hotel, etc

2. Dance Competitions

• approx. $25.00 per dancer per dance
• travel expenses depend on location of competition

Dancer & Parent Expectations

FUSION Dance Company is a 9 month commitment, during which many events take place. It is crucial that all dancers and parents stay informed with FUSION information throughout the entire year. Here are some expectations dancers and parents must follow in order to maintain a smooth, safe, enjoyable year:

1. Be ON TIME to weekly classes.
2. TUITION must be paid the 1st class of the month.
3. ATTENDANCE is MANDATORY. (Dancers may not miss more than 5 classes during season)
4. Keep your FUSION Calendar UPDATED.
5. STAY INFORMED & pick up new information.
6. Parent involvement is CRUCIAL to FUSION’S constantly active schedule
